If you are enquiring about admission into a research degree or thesis (i.e., MTh or PhD), please firstly consider the following admission requirements for the PhD or MTh. If you can demonstrate that you fulfill these requirements, please send your enquiry directly to [email protected] along with;
- detailed transcripts from your completed Graduate or Masters level degree (including the topic and word count of any thesis submitted so far),
- details of your proposed thesis topic, and
- an explanation of why you would like to complete your research degree at QTC.
Eligibility for Study at QTC
If you are unsure whether you are eligible to study units for credit with QTC, the following will give you an initial guide to our eligibility requirements. Please contact the Registrar [email protected] if you have any questions about how this might apply in your situation;
- Be able to give an account of your past and present Christian commitment
- Past studies: for recent high school graduates an ATAR of 65 or higher, a minimum of a complete Diploma level course for other applicants. If you have not completed tertiary studies, please contact the Registrar about the Admission Test.
- Accept the ‘Student Code of Conduct‘
- Provide a Christian Pastoral Reference (contact Registrar for template and further information)
- Further requirements are applicable for overseas students
Excepting the past studies requirement, all these requirements also apply to audit students.

Steps in the Application Process
- Australian Domestic Students
Follow the step by step process below to apply for study at QTC.
You will be required to provide a completed application form, pastor’s recommendation, personal identification, a passport sized photo, and other documents.
Before you make an application for study at QTC, it is important that you possess the following required characteristics:
- a personal relationship with God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his saving work at the cross;
- a genuine connection with a local church that you usually attend on a weekly basis;
- a real desire to be better equipped for ministry through the study of God’s word and engagement with college life;
- a willingness to prioritise theological study and be disciplined in applying yourself academically;
- an awareness of the requirements of the Australian College of Theology;
- Australian citizenship or residency.

Complete the New Student Enrolment Application Form Australian Resident Application Form. Then contact our Registrar to discuss your next step.
2. Submit Your Forms
The Registrar will contact you about the process of coming to college and the next few steps. You will also be asked to supply a reference from your pastor confirming that, in their view, training at college is the right step for you.
The Registrar will send you other necessary forms including a template for the Pastor’s Reference and the ‘Students Code of Conduct’ after your first contact. You will also be required to send a passport sized photo (for your student ID card). You must apply for any cross-credits from any previous related qualification by the start of your first semester at QTC.
If you are using FEE-HELP to pay your fees, you will need to complete a FEE-HELP Application Form, supplied by the College. You must apply for any cross-credits from any previous related qualification by the start of your first Semester at QTC.
Send your completed forms to [email protected]. This email address can also be used for any other course enquiries.
3. Interview
The College will arrange for you to have an interview with the Principal and/or another member of the college staff. This will help to determine whether theological college is the right step for you at this time. We will also talk with you about entry requirements and which course best suits you.
4. College Confirmation
If your application is successful the College will contact you (usually by email) to confirm the offer of a place. You must then reply to the email to accept the offer.
5. Plan Your Study
Check the Calendar & Timetable page for key dates for the year as well as a copy of the timetable. Download the Unit Outlines for the units you will study and read them, especially to check any pre-reading requirements etc.
6. Payment of Fees
Please pay your fees by 28 February for Semester 1 and 31 July for Semester 2, unless you have already filled out a Fee-Help form.
The total fee that you pay for each subject is made up of two components:
1. a fee for tuition, library use, and other services provided by QTC, and
2. a small ACT administration fee.

You will receive a student/library card in the first two weeks of classes.
Deadline for Applications
Applications to QTC can be made at any time of the year. Those applications received before 1 December (for study in Semester 1) and 1 June (for study in Semester 2) can normally be processed rapidly and a decision given well before your intended start date. QTC regrets that it is unable to admit students to a course where their intended start date (first day of classes) is two weeks or less after the date that their application has been received.
- Overseas Students
Follow the step by step process below to apply for study at QTC.
You will be required to provide a completed application form, pastor’s recommendation, personal identification in the form of a photocopy of the title page of your current passport, a copy of your Secondary School and Tertiary academic awards, a passport sized photo, and other documents.
Before you make an application for study at QTC, it is important that you possess the following required characteristics:
- a personal relationship with God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his saving work at the cross;
- a genuine connection with a local church that you usually attend on a weekly basis;
- a real desire to be better equipped for ministry through the study of God’s word and engagement with college life;
- a willingness to prioritise theological study and be disciplined in applying yourself academically;
- an awareness of the requirements of the Australian College of Theology;
- aged 18 or above
- a demonstrated competency in English at a requisite level.
QTC will only enroll an overseas student who has previously studied an approved course in Australia if the student can demonstrate that:
- The student had demonstrated commitment to studies in that previous course;
- The student had a good attendance record for that course;
- The student has paid all fees for that course.

2. Submit Your Forms
Once you contact our Registrar, they will organise to guide you through the process of applying to enrol at QTC. You will also be asked to supply a reference from your pastor confirming that, in their view, training at college is the right step for you.
Applicants who (a) have an assessable qualification that was undertaken solely in English in one of a set of prescribed countries in the last 10 years OR (b) have been a resident in Australia with English being the language spoken at home and at work for ten (10) or more years are NOT required to provide proof of English language proficiency for consideration for admission to an ACT course.
All other applicants MUST provide proof of English language proficiency for consideration for admission to an ACT course through QTC. Such proof will normally be by provision of the results of an IELTS test (Academic Version) completed within the last 2 years.
For admission to undergraduate courses such as the Diploma of Theology, Bachelor of Theology degree or Associate Degree of Theology, the minimum IELTS result required is 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest.
For admission to a postgraduate course such as the Master of Divinity degree, the minimum IELTS result required is 7.0 overall with a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing, and 6.5 in listening and speaking subtests.
The Registrar will send you other necessary forms including a template for the Pastor’s Reference and the ‘Students Code of Conduct’ after your first contact. You will also be required to send a passport sized photo (for your student ID card). You must apply for any cross-credits from any previous related qualification by the start of your first semester at QTC.

3. Interview

4. College Confirmation
If your application is successful the College will contact you (usually by email) to confirm the offer of a place. You will then receive a letter of offer and an Overseas Student Written Agreement for you to sign, indicating your acceptance and agreement. This is to be returned to QTC. An Overseas Student Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) will then be generated by the College and sent to you to use in your application for an Overseas Student VISA for Australia. You will be required to complete your qualification in the minimum time for a full-time student, e.g. 3 years for a Bachelor of Theology or Master of Divinity.
5. Plan Your Study
Check the Calendar & Timetable page for key dates for the year as well as a copy of the timetable. You will receive a confirmation of enrolment letter by the first day of Semester. Download the Unit Outlines for the units you will study and read them, especially to check any pre-reading requirements, etc.
6. Payment of Fees
You will be required to pay your fees up-front at the start of each semester. QTC currently charges the same rate of fee for Overseas Students as for Australian Domestic Students. Please pay your fees by 28 February in Semester 1 and 31 July in Semester 2.
